Deaf Awareness Week
September 21 – 28 is Deaf Awareness Week, and we want to increase the awareness of deaf pets. With a little extra work, you can form an amazing bond with a deaf animal.
Did You Know?
Many deaf dogs are white. Pigment cells "that color the fur and skin in non-white dogs convert sound waves into electrical impulses that nerves then carry to the brain. When the ear lacks pigment cells, the nerve endings atrophy and die. As a result, sound waves entering the ear go no farther, and the dog cannot hear."

*DOG TIP*
Each year, more than 4 million people, mostly children, are victims of dog bites. Many dog bites can be prevented through responsible dog ownership. The three most important things a dog owner can do to enhance safety in puplic is to train their dog, socialize their dog and have their dog spayed or neutered.
*CAT TIP*
Whether you use a ceramic, glass, stainless-steel or plastic bowl, make sure it is wider than your cat’s whiskers. Cats don't like narrow bowls and remove food from them to eat off the floor. Thoroughly wash your cat’s food and water bowls daily but avoid bleaches or detergents with citrus or pine smells. They will most likely to distract rather than attract your cat. Remember your cat likes to eat in private.
